The best-known well in Puná is Pozo de la Virgen, known for having palatable water. The well is located near poorly constructed septic tanks and animal pens, and showed extremely high levels of bacterial contamination (>100,000 CFUs / 100 mL) when tested by Water Ecuador before our arrival.
