The word entertaiment is derived from the Latin intertenere, meaning “to hold inside.” Entertainment is a powerful force that can bring joy, stimulate learning, and even have negative impacts. As such, it is important that we understand and control its power, as well as recognize that what might appear to be entertainment for one person may be seen as work or cruelty by another. The familiar forms of entertainment that we are exposed to are constantly changing and being remixed, demonstrating a seemingly infinite capacity for creative transformation.
